Goood Afternooooon KC! Hope everyone’s having a marvelous Friday, the weather is looking ideal today! Once again we have a very inclusive interview from Kansas City’s Zac Bendrick!

We asked Zac a couple questions to get to know his mind a little better, and what it’s like for him to be an artist in the Kc art district! Without further ado, hereee weee goooo!

What inspires your paintings?

“My paintings are inspired by my curiosity to paint and learn what makes a painting good and what makes them great. I am fascinated with the puzzle this presents before me.”

What does your artwork represent?

“My artwork represents my interpretation of the world around me. I have these ideas and thoughts that come from my life and I want to release that onto a canvas with colors and shapes that are fun or interesting to look at and something that is unique to me and me alone.”

How do you make it, in the art community?

“The way I paint is with traditional methods of brush and paint. I then slap some music on and go about sketching my form out then painting it and filling in colors on the fly as I go. I work very freely and loose and rarely know my next move.”

What does art mean to you and what it means for society?

“I think art to me is a way to leave my mark and possibly leave something for someone to look at in the future. But ultimately it is just me enjoying the passion I have for creating and I want to share that with everybody. Art for society, I would have to say art for everybody can be a fresh new way to challenge yourself and maybe help blow off some steam or start up interesting conversations about what we are looking at or painting.”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community?

“I don’t know if I am even a part of an artist community to be honest haha. I just paint and share my work in anyway I can. If anything I definitely feel like an outsider to it all.”

What's your favorite medium?

Acrylic, oil sucks for me and I will attempt to master it someday but not now.”

Lastly, a little about yourself.

“Aside from painting I work in IT and enjoy typical things like table top games, videogames and the cool new TV show that’s airing. Right now I think it’s the new Star wars show and I guess I need to catch up on Stranger Things. “

Zac is currently working on The Portrait Project where he will need 80-100 faces for references to paint! You can find more information about this on his website:
