Good, kinda afternoon Kc! Today we have another amazing interview from The Heart and Hand Co LLC!

We asked H&H some questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an up-and-coming artist in the KC art community!

What inspires your paintings?

“My work revolves around inspiration from the greatest artist of all: Mother Nature. By weaving nature into my art, I find escape through the daily hustle. The calmness of the ocean shore, the weightlessness of a butterfly’s flutter, or the feeling of time standing still under a canopy of trees can be found throughout my work. “

What does your artwork represent?

“My images evoke memories and times throughout my life when I have felt freedom from reality. They represent my desire to feel free from structure and the weight of the world”.

How do you make it, in the art community?

“I enjoy a variety of 2-dimensional mediums such as encaustic and acrylic painting, pyrography, and drawing. I have a hard time committing to one medium but would rather constantly blur the lines into mixed media.“

What does art mean to you and what it means for society?

“To me, art is intertwined in our lives in ways we don’t even realize daily. The clothes we wear, the houses we live in, and the music we hear. Art is a representation of a society's culture. Art is the voice and vision of our society.”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community?

“Kansas City has such a thriving, supportive art community. There are art opportunities everywhere you look in this city and through those opportunities, I have learned so much about becoming who I am as an artist. “

What's your favorite medium?

“My favorite medium is pyrography or wood burning. Since the time I could hold a pencil, I have loved to draw. Pyrography elevates my drawings with the aid of fire and I feel so much closer to my subject matter when I am incorporating organic material such as wood.”

Last but not least, tell us a little about h&h co...

“I am a two-dimensional multimedia artist who’s lived in the Kansas City Metro my whole life. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Secondary Education with an emphasis in Art in 2015 and a Master’s of Curriculum and Instruction in 2021, both from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. For the past 7 years, I have been blending my passion for the arts with teaching as a public-school visual arts educator. In 2020, I created my art business known as The Heart and Hand. Through my art business, I can tell people’s stories and bring to life their ideas and experiences through personalized commissions.”
