What’s up KC!? This evening we have another phenomenal interview from Melissa Kilpatrick! I asked Kilpatrick a couple questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an artist in the kc art district, what motivates her, and just a little about her! Keep reading to see the full interview!

What Inspires your creativity?

“I think nature is my biggest creativity inspiration.”

What does your artwork represent?

“My art often represents how I feel when I’m in nature or touched by something that inspires me.”

What does art mean to you, and what does it mean for society?

“Art for me is an expression of something that moves you in some way. For society, I think art is often a way for people to express their emotions. And collectively it can be a good barometer for the emotional health of that society.”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community?

“Since I tend to paint trees and flowers, I’m most likely going to paint the things I see around me. So I paint a lot of local floral.”

What is currently your favorite medium?

“I work most often with acrylic paint, often thickened with a heavy texture medium, hot glue (molded and free form), and gold leaf.”

Lastly, but never least, a little about yourself?

“I am a self-taught artist (YouTube is a wonderful thing) specializing in mixed media floral art. My daughter, Kiah McDaniel, also works with me, specializing in resin art.”
