Hey, hey, hey! 👋 For our last interview to wrap up the day, we have some thoughts from Bailey Thomas, creator of Bailey Thomas Prints!

I asked Thomas a couple questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an artist in the KC art district, what motivates her, and just a little about her! Keep reading to see the full interview!

What Inspires your creativity?

“My inspiration comes from finding a moment that makes me happy/ makes me feel at ease. I love finding that perfect lighting that creates such a comfortable feeling and capturing that moment in time. Every time I go out of my way to go back and look at a certain picture, or find one specifically to show someone, I know I did something right, even if it was just to make myself happy.”

What does your artwork represent?

“My artwork represents happiness. It also represents simplicity. This is very important for my own well being. It really takes me out of my “real world” and makes that moment in time so much more simple. It’s Therapeutic even if it does only last a few moments.”

How do you make it, in the art community?

“I recently got into selling my photos because I’ve had a handful of friends tell me they were good enough to sell. And i have sold some to friends and even strangers which is a great feeling! To think my photos are one anyones wall and a topic of conversation at some point in their household is so great. However, as great as it is to get my art out there, I’m just happy to be taking photos. The fact anyone else likes it is just a huge plus.”

What does art mean to you, and what does it mean for society?

Art is infinite. There is a never ending spectrum of art and it’s just finding your point on that spectrum and embracing it, adjusting it when necessary and finding your own happiness that follows.”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community?

“Kansas Citians are such a proud group of people who love to embrace and brag about being from KC (as they should!) and so my main form of art in KC areas includes some of the bigger staples. That list includes the shuttlecocks at the Nelson, the Western Auto Lofts (of course) and more. But I also have been traveling a lot in this last year and capturing so many other moments in time so are beautiful to me and many others. It has really encouraged me to just take my camera out whenever I feel like it and just snap whatever I want.”

Lastly, but never least, a little about yourself?

“My name is Bailey Thomas (she/her) and turning 28 in September. Finding a Hobby “this late” in life is something I never thought I’d be capable of doing. A few years ago were very dark for me and in this last year, photography along with a great partner, and some great people in my life, it has helped me find worth in life and to be nicer to myself. It’s a slow process where it’s 2 step forwards, 1 step back but it’s way better than giving up on myself.”
