INSIDE W/ AMANDA REECE

What’s up kc? Hope everyone’s having a fantastic Friday! Today we’re coming back with our second interview of the day, from Amanda Reece! I asked Reece a couple questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an artist in the kc art district, what motivates her, and just a little about her! Keep reading to see the full interview!

What Inspires your creativity? “ I’m inspired by beautiful moments in every day life. I have a short attention span and if I see beautiful projects in a medium I’ve never tried before, I invest myself to learning how to do something new. In the past year I’ve gotten into pastels and polymer clay - two things that were brand new to me.”

What does your artwork represent? “ My artwork represents all of my creative and anxious energy poured out into whatever project I’m working on at the time. My variety of medium and subjects is very true to my eclectic nature. “ How do you make it, in the art community? “I think committing yourself to practicing your art and trying to always further your own education and experience is helpful. I think, even at close to 40 years old, I myself have a ways to go before I would consider that I’ve truly “made it.” You have to love what your doing to make it in any area.”

What does art mean to you, and what does it mean for society? “ Art to me is an outlet for creative energy. A way to express myself. People need creative outlets to feel like a whole human. Society would be very gray and boring without art.” How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community? “ I’m actually from Wichita but have lived in the KC area for 16 years and feel it has truly become my “home town.” Just starting to put myself out there in the KC art world (a challenge for all of us introverts) is such a treat because there are so many opportunities to show your art here in KC. I’ve found the art community here as a whole to be extremely uplifting and supportive. “ What is currently your favorite medium? My favorite (and most lucrative) medium is probably watercolor.” Lastly, but never least, a little about yourself? “ I live and work in Lenexa with my husband, two kids, and very old Siberian husky. I left my office job last year after working for 15 years in graphic design and marketing to focus full time on my family and fine art.” To check out more of Reece’s artwork go to https://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaReeceArt and follow their Instagram @amandareece.art As always thank you for making this possible, and giving kc more room to use their voices! Thank you again Amanda, and thank you KC!
