INSIDE W/ THE BOHO BABE

Hey everyone! Y’all ready for fall? I sure am! Today we have some art and accessories for all year round! Stick around to find out more about it!

Today we have another special interview from Sydney Haug, creator of The Boho Babe! I asked Sydney a couple questions to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an artist in the art district, what motivates her, and just a little about her! Keep reading to see the full interview!

What Inspires your creativity? “ My creativity is inspired oftentimes by color and the changing seasons. I love nature and how the colors and tones change throughout the year. I have always been drawn to floral and leaves.”

What does your artwork represent? “My artwork represents my love for the elements. Especially texture, color, and line. I love how powerful those three are together in a piece.” How do you make it, in the art community? “Making it in the art community is actually something that is new to me. I am a middle school art teacher full time, but I’ve missed being an artist in my personal life so I’ve been getting back into it and loving it! I just recently participated in my second street fair and enjoyed it so much. I can’t wait to find local businesses that would be willing to carry my work and to apply to more festivals.” What does art mean to you, and what does it mean for society? “I have a background in Art Therapy, so Art really does mean a lot to me. I see how healing art can be for me and also for others. Creating brings me peace!”

How does being from KC affect your work in the Artist community? “ I am actually originally from Saint Louis and I’ve also spent time in Chicago …living there for a couple years helped inspire me and gave me a change of scenery. I did my first street festival there. But ultimately, being here in Kansas City feels like the best of both worlds and I love it. I’m excited to grow in the art community here. KC has so much to offer.”

What is currently your favorite medium? “ My favorite medium is watercolor, but I consider myself a mixed media artist because I love to add things like gold leaf and oil pastel to my work. I also love painting with acrylic, I’m working on larger scale pieces now. The latest medium I’ve been enjoying is polymer clay and making earrings inspired by the boho style!” Lastly, but never least, a little about yourself? “A little bit about me, like I mentioned above I have lived all over the Midwest and consider it home. I’ve always loved art and becoming a teacher is a really rewarding job. I enjoy getting to see my students grow in their art skills and as people. It’s really fun to be the person that teaches them a technique for the first time. I can’t imagine my life without art and my goal is to keep creating so that it can bring other people joy when they hang a piece on the wall, or put on a pair of my earrings!” To check out more of Sydney’s artwork go to https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheBohoBabeHandmade and follow their Instagram @thebohobabehandmade As always thank you for making this possible, and giving kc more room to use their voices!
