INSIDE W/ STEPHANIE WILSON

I apologize for the short mental health break but we are back baby! I hope everyone's week has been adventure filled so far! Is anyone excited about the weekend? Me tooooo. Anyways, back to today's interview, we have a special one from artist Stephanie Wilson, creator of Wilson Spoon Co.! Without further ado, let's jump right into it!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIVITY?

"I have always loved art but was told it was not something you could make into a career. So I am driven to prove them wrong and enjoy the creative process as well."

WHAT DOES YOUR ARTWORK REPRESENT?

"Our art work represents us as a unit, as a family working together to make our dreams come true."

HOW DO YOU MAKE IT, IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

"We don’t always run in the art based circles. We strike out into different markets. We had a booth at the Parkville Farmers Market from April -October. We didn’t exactly fit in but I feel like that turned out to be a good thing."

WHAT DOES ART MEAN TO YOU, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR SOCIETY?

"Art is a way to express ourselves in many different mediums and we feel art is a critical part of society. Woodworking in particular seems to be very nostalgic for most people and we get to reminisce with our clients about the many woodworkers in their lives and the projects over the years."

HOW DOES BEING FROM KC AFFECT YOU IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

"Honestly I’m not from Kansas City. My husband was born here and lived his whole life here. He was raised in a woodshop with his grandfather and father. So it is a family tradition. "

YOUR FAVORITE ART MEDIUM AT THE MOMENT?

"Favorite medium I can never decide. It’s why I make so many things. For Josh it is definitely the woodworking and cutting into a piece of wood and seeing the unique grain patterns."

& OF COURSE, A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF :)

"We have been married a little over 10 year are raising a 5 yr old adhd asd child together. He is a big part of why I work a non traditional job. We have our shop dogs that we love having around and are just a typical midwestern family looking for no traditional way to make a living off of doing what we love. We support each other's interests and our different talents help our business thrive! ❤️"
