INSIDE W/ MARISA CARTER

Hello KC, today we have a special interview with October's Artist of the Month, Marisa Carter, creator of Resin Art by Marisa! We have a packed full interview for you today, so without further ado, I'll let Marisa tell her story!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR ART?

"What inspires my creativity is the beautiful nature around us, the resin art community does a great job at supporting one another and lifts one another up, working with this medium brings like-minded people together and creates a sense of community. I love working with epoxy resin as a medium. The wonderful world around me inspires me every day as well."

WHAT DOES YOUR ARTWORK REPRESENT?

"My artwork represents creativity at its finest. It’s amazing what you can do with epoxy resin. Just about anything and everything can be casted and preserved."

HOW DO YOU MAKE IT IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

"I make it in the art community by taking it one day at a time. Sometimes I can be overwhelmed by the amount inspiration there is in the world. So I have to remind myself to continue to make things that make me happy and that’s what matters at the end of the day for me."

WHAT DOES ART MEAN TO YOU, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR SOCIETY?

"Art means to me anything you or I want it to be. Growing up, I saw art as really expensive paintings or sculptures in an art gallery. Now as a self-taught resin artist, I see everything in this world as art, whether it’s a sketch that a beginning artist drew or a sculpture that someone put together using a canvas, clay, string, and acyclic paint. I find beauty in so much more now that I consider myself an artist. Being an artist in society can be nerve-racking and scary, but taking that leap of faith can be life-changing."

HOW DOES BEING FROM KC AFFECT YOUR WORK IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

"I believe being from KC affects my work in the artist community in tremendous ways. Being from this creative city has opened up so many doors for me and my small resin art business. The Kansas City area has a thriving art scene. During the warmer months there are dozens of events where artists and the community come together to support each other. Between local community events and private business events, Kansas city has been a great place to grow my business and feel the support from our community. I recently partnered up with a dispensary in Missouri and my functional resin art cannabis leaf shaped ashtrays are there inside their business on their sponsorship shelf available and for sale. I am thrilled and honored by this opportunity! I wouldn’t have gotten here without the support & help from my friends and family as well as the local KC community."

YOUR FAVORITE ART MEDIUM?

"My favorite medium, hands down is epoxy resin. It’s a two part system when combined & mixed properly it hardens into a beautiful work of art. Whether it be epoxy flooring, epoxy river tables or smaller pieces of functional resin art like what I create, such as customized keychains, ashtrays of different sizes and shapes, trinket dishes, trinket bowls, and trinket tray, coasters for your home and car, bookmarks, as well as memorial and wedding pieces, epoxy resin can be used for a plethora of reasons and designed into stunning works of art."

LASTLY, A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF..

"My name is Marisa Carter, I am owner and creator of Resin Art By Marisa. I am a 26 almost 27-year-old college graduate. I graduated from Emporia State university in 2019 and worked a few odd jobs before the pandemic started up & I came across epoxy resin on Instagram. Soon my love for resin turned into an obsession over the course of the next two years. I was an academic advisor for over a year and a half before I turned my happy hobby into a full time job I have been creating and working with resin since January 2020. I am so proud of myself for taking this leap of faith as a self-taught resin artist and I couldn’t be anymore grateful for this opportunity as an artist to grow in the KC area."
