INSIDE W/ CHELSEA BERG

Hey you, yeah you. We have a colorful, fun interview for you today from KC’s very own Abstract Artist, Chelsea Berg! Today we’re going to deep dive into what motivates her, what art means to her, and how she got to where she is now, so c’mon let’s go take a look!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIVITY?

“My entire life I have always been drawn to art and creating. Painting is a safe space to clear my mind and express the stories of my subconscious. Everyday life, emotion, people, and nature are big drivers.”

WHAT DOES YOUR ARTWORK REPRESENT?

“It represents what ever you would like it to! To me, each painting is a piece of me and an expression of the emotions driven by my subconscious. I’d like to think that people who view my art can find a piece of themselves within it as well. For commissioned art I really like to channel the energy of my clients by getting to know them a little bit before starting!”

HOW DO YOU MAKE IT, IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

“Apply to shows! Personally, that’s how I was able to really start getting my name out there. If you are ever presented with a free opportunity to show your work, do it. No matter how small. You never know who you may meet or who will fall in love with your art! My very first show was Art Wesport in the emerging artists category and things really started to take off from there.”

WHAT DOES ART MEAN TO YOU, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR SOCIETY?

“Art is such an important part of my life. The endless art forms each have their own unique way of evoking emotion and thought. Art can somehow capture and sweep your mind away to a distant memory or a day dream of what the future may hold. I cannot think of anything else that can do that in just a single glimpse.”

HOW DOES BEING FROM KC AFFECT YOUR WORK IN THE ART COMMUNITY?

“I have lived in KC since 2011, before that I moved around a lot due to my family being in the military. KC has definitely become home for me and I love that we have the Nelson Atkins Museum. Seeing some of Van Gogh’s art in person was really game changing for me, particularly when I learned one of his paintings has a dead grasshopper in it!”

WHATS YOUR FAVORITE ART MEDIUM?

“Acrylics!!! “

LAST BUT NEVER LEAST, A LITTLE ABOUT CHEALSEA...

“ I recently left my career as a cardiac transplant RN. I am an empath and so it was difficult for me to balance work and home life so I decided to step away from my job to be more present for my two young children, they are now 3 and 1 :) Sine my youngest has turned one I have been able to put time aside for myself to paint again! After a little hiatus from painting I decided to come back full force and I launched my official website in October.”
