You asked, and you shall receive... welcome to business 101, let's learn together. After doing some research turns out there's more to it than just making a website, sort of. Marketing is a huge part of running a business though, so let's dive right into it.

Etsy, Shopify, Big Cartel, GoDaddy, Wix, Yelp, SquareUp, these are just a couple start up shops you've probably heard of that you can choose from if you don't want to buy your own domain right away. Etsy for example has two different plans you can choose from the first being their "Etsy Standard Plan" starting at $0 a month, with this plan you get

  • Features for purchasing and printing postage

  • Discounted postage rates

  • Sales and coupon creation

  • Sell on Etsy app

The second plan offered is their "Etsy Plus Plan", this plan costs $10/ month but it includes everything that the Standard plan does, and more

  • Advanced Customization options

  • Banner options

  • New layouts for featured listings

  • Restock requests for sold-out items

  • 15 listing credits monthly (the equivalent of $3 in listings)

  • $5 in Etsy Ads credits monthly

  • Free .store domains

  • 50% off select domain extentions: .com, .net, and .ca

  • Discounts on custom web addresses

  • Discounts on custom packaging and promotional materials

Before choosing which site, you're going to use to help build your website make sure you do your research on them, to save you some trouble here's some links to reviews for each example site I listed.

After you've chosen your site, got that ready to go now you're ready for step two of marketing, promotions. Honestly, this is the easiest part and the hardest part just because you have to keep up with this, constantly. But I got some tips that might make it a little easier for you. First, consistency is key, post DAILY. Trust me, I know what you're thinking "Posting every day? Psh, easy, I do that anyways." Yeah, well because you want to and because you have to makes a difference. Having a routine and a go to promo is very helpful, personally I've found the Canva app which you can find the link to here. This app offers 1,000+ different templates and is extremely easy to use. Set aside 5-10 minutes every night and get a promo or two ready for the next day, so when the morning comes you have nothing to worry about, and you're good to go. Handy dandy yelp business offers FREE business listings, I will put the link to that here.

Our next step, networking. This is also a major one. Think of networking as your business' social life, as that is essentially, what it is. Here are some ways to establish a successful network:

  • Set clear goals/ develop your brand

  • Talk less, learn more

  • Attend as many (local market) events as possible/ network events

  • Business cards on deck at all times

  • Strong customer focus

Before I let you guys fly on your own, I have one last piece of advice for you, be yourself, don’t be afraid to take risks, build your brand slowly (at YOUR own pace), local markets are your best friend, and understand the 5 stages of business. Existence, survival, success, take-off, and resource maturity. If you want to learn more about the “5 stages of business” click here.

Thank you to everyone who supports and makes this possible, and as always thank you KC!
